Hubble Space Photography and My Art.
A deeply seated aspect of my art practice is the astounding and truly inspirational aesthetic images the Hubble Space Telescope has produced over the last 27 years from its launch in 1990. The intricate mathematical formations and subtle tonal colourations, all not necessarily accurate yet functioning as a visual composite of numerous deep space details, have proven to be an artistic inspiration maintaining my fascination with the stars and the grander realm of the universe. My interest and the unremitting satisfaction that I gain from viewing these images of deep space, is fundamentally a continuation or perhaps an aggrandisement of my emotional and artistic proximity to nature, for the cosmic universe beyond this mere, somewhat diminutive planet is in fact nothing more than the macrocosmic state nature preserves and perpetuates.
From the incendiary hearts of stars, to the quixotic and alluring intensity of black holes, space has always been a companion to me, even from a young age when I would stare up at the night sky in the back seat of our family car whilst my family drove, watching the myriad lighted sparks that are the long lost echoes of activity distant stars created eons ago. Without the fine complexity of space, my own artwork and music would prove impossible. It is the unknowable that can be inferred; the inference that can be sought and felt, yet never completely fathomed, which is the concept at the pith of my artistic method and subsequently the heart of the message my work expresses.
